Time to Make the Brisket

Blizzard Brisket

I don’t know what you’re making for the big game this weekend?  Scratch that, I’ve been a blog-reading fool, so I do know what a lot of you are making but I’m wondering what my snow bound neighbors in Northern Virginia have going on in their kitchens during this snowy weekend?  With all the traffic at local supermarkets leading up to the Snowpacolypse, surely there’s some good cooking going on all around the DC metro area by people that are more into the “Super Storm” than the Super Bowl.

Bring on the Snowpocalypse

by Fran@frantasticfood.com on February 6, 2010

Let’s Eat

What do you do when there’s news of a “Super Storm” — you know the kind — a major, never happened before, I’m pretty darn sure they’re not exaggerating about the 18″ – 30″ blizzard is on your doorstep kind of storm?  Like most people (I didn’t say ALL people), do you head to the supermarket for the requisite bread, milk and eggs with possibly a few rolls of toilet paper and a shovel thrown in?

The Sky is Falling! The Sky is Falling! Or Will It?

The Coming “Snowpacolypse” (Credit goes to The Restonian for coining the term)

Yesterday’s snow was not monumental.  It was a heavy, wet snow which produced a pretty sight and of course, a slew of schools were closed, but it was nothing to get worked up over.  Not for me, that is — I only have to [...]

Dark Chocolate Terror

Chocolate, Sweetheart

I’m sorry for terrorizing you.  If you’re not able to partake in the experience of drowning yourself in luxurious chocolate, dark as night with a bittersweet bite and an aroma that makes you swoon, I am really, really sorry.   This post may make you cry.  It’s likely to be traumatizing.  That is, if [...]

Tough Decisions

I couldn’t make up my mind this morning.  A few weeks ago at Food Blogger Camp I met Dianne Jacob, co-author of Grilled Pizzas & Piadinas.  We’ve been carrying the book in the store for more than a year.  I’ve leafed through it countless times but had not yet made it a part of [...]

My Last Meal

What Would You Have?

At the end of dinner at La Luna Azul, one of the specialty restaurants at Club Med, Ixtapa Pacific, a few weeks ago, our hosts, the Ruhlman’s asked us a question — one that took no thought on my part.  The question?  Without worrying about money or supplies, what would your last [...]

As If You Had Any Doubt

I made this pasta the other night.  It’s not a clever title, but I’d like to call it, “Everything but the Kitchen Sink Pasta,” because the night before a much-needed trip to the supermarket, I foraged through the kitchen to find ingredients to put together for dinner.  Grape tomatoes, fresh [...]

Matzo Ball Soup

I avoid duplicating meals here, but after almost two and a half years of writing about and broadcasting my dinners, this soup, this ultimate comfort food has been featured more times than I can count.  And there’s no apologizing for it.  When I need soothing,  when I need never-fail-me-food, I turn to chicken [...]

A Perfectly Sunny Situation

What’s a HoneyBell?

This is a box of HoneyBell oranges. The ball of Florida goodness is a hybrid of Dancy Tangerines and Duncan Grapefruits.  They’re so easy to peel, and  It may look like a box of everyday oranges, but don’t let the pretty packaging fool you.  This is a box of sunshine.

Through the Haze of the Lens
This title has more to do with the video than this first impression reveals.  A friend lent me his point and shoot for the trip with a bonus … an underwater housing.  I was excited to take it with me, albeit a bit nervous about using someone else’s equipment.  Once [...]
