BBQ Brisket and an Ode to a Blizzard

Time to Make the Brisket

Blizzard Brisket

I don’t know what you’re making for the big game this weekend?  Scratch that, I’ve been a blog-reading fool, so I do know what a lot of you are making but I’m wondering what my snow bound neighbors in Northern Virginia have going on in their kitchens during this snowy weekend?  With all the traffic at local supermarkets leading up to the Snowpacolypse, surely there’s some good cooking going on all around the DC metro area by people that are more into the “Super Storm” than the Super Bowl.

I decided to show Old Man Winter that he can’t keep me down and broke into some grilling action.  Now, I know.  You’re looking at my grill shaking your heads in pity, feeling sorry for me for for calling this a grill.  But don’t hate.  Local law prohibits anything but an electric grill within 15 feet of a multi-dwelling building and I’m quite happy with my little grill.  It works great and even has rotisserie functionality.

Yes, it was cold, and as the day progressed, so did the winds and I found myself outside with my camera and tripod looking for snowy beauty to shoot.  I think I found it.

And for some reason I was drawn to the trees.

I’m learning how to take better pictures of the food I cook, but it looks like now I need someone to show me how to shoot a snowscape.

And the sun appears, albeit briefly

As I was looking for images of the storm, I realized I’d forgotten about a small camera I’d taken to Mexico and found a few photos and videos that needed to be uploaded.  A few seconds of crashing waves helped keep me warm this afternoon and make an appearance below.

Things will return to normal in the next few days — just in time for another round of snow.  They’re saying it won’t be anything like this storm, but I can dream, ya know.

In 2007 my career with a large, but shrinking high tech Fortune 50 \"left me,\" leaving a void in my life. While lamenting the loss and flying around the world looking for a new career to get married to, I discovered a way to use a familiar outlet during tough times -- writing. My blog-writing morphed into writing about my favorite past time -- Food! I purchase food, sell food, make food, watch food being made, broadcast meal preparation, photograph and blog about food. Like I said; Food! To change this standard text, you have to enter some information about your self in the Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile box.

Yep we saw on the news tonight that Wednesday is another storm, but this time it will come to me! I think it’s going to hit NYC and Boston! I feel like a storm now – only by Wednesday – I’ll need more food in my cupboards too! Nice post and I think your snow photos are lovely! Brisket looks nice too!
