The 411 on Fran

FranIn 2007 my 12 year marriage to a large, but shrinking high tech Fortune 50 (AOL) ended, leaving a large gaping hole in my life.  While lamenting the loss and flying around the world looking for a new company to get married to, I discovered a way to use a familiar outlet during tough times — writing and the internet.  The blog began as a treatise on an up-and-coming technology in the form of Justin.tv, and after nearly a million words and countless photos, the blog-writing morphed into writing about my favorite past time — Food!  I purchase food, sell food, make food, watch food being made, broadcast food preparation, photograph food and blog about food on FRANtasticfood.com.   Like I said; Food!

There’s no project plan for what I’ll be making.  You can’t work up a histogram to identify outlier recipes — well, I suppose you can, but I’m not that obsessed, or logical.

I started cooking when I was a child.  The very first savory dish I remember making at home with guidance from my mom, was baked macaroni & cheese.  It was the home made, from scratch type of comforting goodness that can only come from a kitchen, not a supermarket shelf in a blue and yellow box.

For me, cooking is based on inspiration.  Something I’ve seen on television, a look in the pantry, a photo in a blog, a sweep through a cookbook, the weather, or a pass through the market may be the spark that feeds my food craving and often surprises me.  Come along with me as we dive into dishes that span the world and all methods of cooking and hopefully you’ll find something that sparks your craving too.

FRAN!!!!!!

So Fran made this crazy pizza with asparagus and eggs…yes I said asparagus and hard boiled egg today. At first I was skeptical, I don’t like asparagus and egg on pizza…Really?!? OMG!!!!!!! It was the BEEEESSSSTTT , RIDICULOUS, INSANE, I couldn’t-stuff-it-in-my-face-faster pizza. I could have eaten a pie myself. So Fran you promised to post your off-the-cuff, thrown together masterpiece and I am patiently waiting….I know where you live…just saying.

Ok, it’s coming. It will be posted by tomorrow afternoon. But for now, if you want to get prepared, go buy yourself some asparagus … not that whimpy thin stuff — get a few nice sized spears. Cured olives, an egg, a little heavy cream, shredded parmesan cheese, good olive oil and flour. If you want, you can buy dough that’s already made. Harris Teeter and Trader Joes have it in their refrigerator sections. Ok, now leave me alone! I have to write a recipe. :)
